I got these stripes today and checked them out immediately. I had hoped for a heavier, more flexible material with a rubber sole beneath, which would adjust itself through it's own weight and the rubber adherence on the floor: that would have been a simple, effective and really mobile solution.
But ufortunately they are quite lightweight with just adhesive strips beneath, which didn't even last a minute on my hard floor:
At the first contact with my roomba they loosened and at the second contact they lost their grip totally, so that the roomba at one time pushed them aside and run directly into the "protected" area (whereas one stripe clung to the roomba) and the other time it simply drove over them i a quite fast pace.
So, without attaching the stripes they don't work and the adhesive strips don't last more than a minute. That is really a pitty. On the other hand the customer service is extremely good and friendly and the keep- off mat works just fine. Therefore 3 stars ....

iRobot Roomba 510 Vacuuming Robot Review

No, this is not going to be a review telling you how awful the Roomba is. Actually, the 510 is a really wonderful maintenance robot. The problem is that for just a little more you can get the Roomba 530 which comes with the Home Base. What that means is you never have to plug in your Roomba to recharge it: whenever it's done cleaning it automatically goes back to the home base for charging. Although the Home Base is available separately, it is not compatible with this model, leaving you with no upgrade path should you ever want this extremely convenient feature.
More expensive models have a timer for programmable operation (Roomba 560) and even a remote control (Roomba 580t).
All models are identical in terms of performance. The diminutive size and quiet operation would lead you to believe these are little toys akin to hand vacs... until you get back to a thoroughly cleaned room.
I set the 510 loose on the cats room, where the little devils send litter flying everywhere. The room has hardwood floors and an area rug. When I came back, the Roomba was sitting proudly in the middle of the room, and the rug was spotless. There was hardly a trace of litter or cat hair on the hardwood floors, either.
So, the Roomba is definitely a thumbs up. However, I wish I had paid more attention to the product line and at least picked the model that docks back to the home base. The 510 is potentially a tripping hazard, so it's well worth the extra fifty dollars to move up to the model 530.

iRobot Scooba 350 Floor-Washing Robot Review

I actually own the 380 model. I consider my floor clean only if I was on my hands and knees cleaning the floor. With four boys it is a everyday affair and I always do not have the time or energy to scrub my floors.
I put the scooba to a test after a day of spilled tea and sugar on the floor along with the muddy footprints. I swept the floor and set it loose. It cleaned up everything, even the areas that I missed from the broom. The only areas the scooba does not clean are corners, but it will free up your time to clean other areas in the house.

For reliably clean floors including sealed hardwood, tile, and linoleum, this award-winning floor-washing robot can handle up to 500 square feet on a single battery charge. Its four-stage cleaning process includes the prep stage, which picks up dirt, sand, and crumbs; the washing stage, which uses only clean solution (mops just spread around dirty water); the scrubbing stage, which removes dirt, grime, and stuck-on messes; and the drying stage, which squeegee lifts dirty water from floors. The cleaning machine uses clean tap water, a water and vinegar mixture, or deep-cleaning, fresh-scented Clorox Scooba cleaning solution. In addition, it avoids carpets, rugs, ledges, and stairs thanks to its cliff-sensing technology. The unit conveniently self navigates throughout each room cleaning beneath cabinet edges, tables, chairs, and other hard-to-reach places. The robot's autonomous cleaning pattern covers each area of floor an average of five times, and one full tank washes up to 250 square feet before it requires refilling. Accessories include one 8-ounce bottle of Clorox Scooba cleaning solution, a measuring cup, a suction bulb (to prep and maintain the pump), an APS battery, a power supply and charging base, a storage mat, and an owner's guide. One Virtual Wall also comes included to mark off-limit areas with an infrared beam that the robot will not cross (requires two D batteries, not included). The floor-washing robot measures 14-3/4 by 14-3/4 by 3-1/2 inches and carries a one-year warranty.

We've had our Roomba since January 2010 and approx. 6 months later, I still love it and am really glad we made the purchase. It took a little convincing for me to get my husband to agree with the purchase, but now he calls it "his vacuum", and likes to show it off to our friends and family when they come over. For us, it really has reduced my weekly in-house workload. With two cats in the house, birds, bunny, and a dog, pet hair gets tracked throughout the house. With two young children, our kitchen (hardwood floors) gets nibblets of food all over the floor. Setting the vacuum up to focus on one room (by using the virtual walls) makes a big difference. Frequently ours is venturing throughout the entire house.
The only problem we occasionally have is when it gets stuck under our china cabinet, or stuck while trying to suck up a toy that was left behind, or shoelaces hanging off a shoe left out. All very minor issues. I will say, it's a bit odd, when in the middle of the night (like last night), I get woken up by it coming into our bedroom. My guess is it gets turned on by the cats while they're running around playing at night. I hope that's all it is. ;)
I will say that I do still run my other vacuum cleaner (an old Rainbow) about once a month. We have a particular rug in our living room that the pet hair gets ground in after a while and it's hard to get it up with the Roomba, but in general, the carpets look like we regularly vacuum, and you can see all it picks up when you clean it out. Note that you do have to clean it out regularly, and by that I mean, every time it's done with a cleaning. This might seem a pain to some, but it really only takes about 5 minutes to do it. It's worth it to me if it means I can program it to come on whenever I want and come home to cleaned carpets. On another positive note, it has made my kids and husband do a lot better with tidying up better.

If you are new to Roomba, you will wonder if it is worthwhile. The answer is clearly YES, since anything it cleans is that much less for you to clean. However, which is better, the old (and cheaper) Roomba, or the new models like the 530?
First, the 530 comes with the charging/base station, and this is very useful. I have placed this in the entranceway which leads into the livingroom, the kitchen or the bedroom. Using the virtual walls (included), I block off rooms so that it can only do the entranceway + 1 other room. I simply press the "Clean" button, and it backs itself off the charging stand and then spends the next 2 hours cleaning, finally returning to the charging stand. Nice!
Should you upgrade from an older model Roomba (I now use my old Roomba upstairs)? It depends on your situation. By-the-way, the old virtual walls do NOT work with the new Roomba.
New Roomba:
Fall down stairs? Never
Climb onto thick throw rugs?Sometimes
Effectiveness on hard floors? Excellent
Effectiveness on carpets? Good
Trap itself in electrical cords?No
Trap itself in carpet fringes?No
# rooms it can do at once? 2
Ease of emptying dirt?Fairly good
Scare cats and dogs?No
Clean under low furniture? Yes
Quietness? Fairly

Roomba DIED! Nine beeps. Can't say I am happy. I called iRobot and they say the issue is due to a defective bumper which is NOT fixable. Since my warranty is expired, they offered me a somewhat discount price on a new Roomba. I am not sure what I will do.
Edit: 5/7/10
There directions for a cheap (although complicated) repair for this problem in the posts below.

With dramatically improved navigation, cleaning coverage, vacuum pickup, and particle filtration, the Roomba 530 vacuuming robot picks up amazing amounts of dirt and debris with the simple touch of a button. The powerful unit features innovative spinning side brushes that grab dirt and dust from corners and along wall edges, as well as two high-speed, counter-rotating brushes that pick up pet hair, cat litter, food crumbs, and other debris from floors. The vacuum sucks up the debris and deposits it into a large, easy-to-empty bagless dustbin, and its improved fine-filtration system traps dust, pollen, and other allergens inside the unit, reducing infiltration into the living environment.
For added convenience, the vacuum's cleaning head automatically adjusts to transition from wood, tile, and linoleum to carpets and rugs, while improved anti-tangle technology ensures it won't get stuck on cords and rug fringe. If the unit begins to pick up a cord or carpet tassel, it will automatically reverse the direction of its brushes to extract the item. A gentle-touch bumper system senses obstacles so the vacuum automatically slows its approach, gently touches the obstacle, then redirects to continue cleaning under or around the object. Because it cleans under beds, couches, and other hard-to-reach areas, it actually vacuums more of the floor than a standard upright can. The vacuum also senses dirtier areas and spends more time cleaning them, and it uses built-in cliff sensors to avoid stairs and other drop-offs. In addition, invisible barriers can be set using the unit's Virtual Wall system. To mark off-limit areas, simply place a Virtual Wall at a doorway or other opening and adjust the infrared beam setting to the distance of the opening. The unit automatically detects the beam and will not cross it.
The vacuuming robot returns to its self-charging Home Base to dock and recharge between cleaning cycles or when the battery starts to run low. Its advanced power system consists of a fast-charging battery, a three-hour charger, and a power source that supercharges the unit for up to 120 minutes of continuous cleaning, covering about three to four average-size rooms on a single charge. Other accessories include two Virtual Walls (that require two D batteries each), a brush cleaning tool, and an extra filter. The vacuuming robot measures 16-3/4 by 21 by 5 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.
Yes, It Really Works This smart, powerful, and autonomous vacuum features iRobot\'s proven and patented three-stage cleaning system. Neato XV-11 All Floor Robotic Vacuum System Review

I really like this robotic vacuum. It cleans a ridiculous amount of pet hair and dust from my carpet! I used a Roomba, which was fairly good but the drawback was it couldn't navigate to other rooms and back as well as the Neato does. The other drawback was it couldn't figure out how to get onto area carpets without the spinning brush on the front getting stuck. For the Neato, this is no problem at all. Instead of bouncing all around looking for light houses it will detect doorways and move from room to room in a more logical fashion.
The suction and cleaning ability is amazing. I would place the suction power closer to an actual upright vacuum. The noise level is a bit quieter than an upright and maybe a little louder than the whine of a Roomba. There is significantly less bumping, which overall, makes the Neato quieter. It still bumps into things (mostly table legs) from time to time but nowhere near as hard or as frequent.
Battery life is adequate. About an hour to 90 minutes I've seen. I have several large rooms for it to work on and it doesn't do them both in a single charge. The nice thing about the Neato is it will recharge itself (2-3 hours) when the battery runs out then it will resume exactly where it left off to complete the job.
Coverage is very good. It does seem to miss very small parts of the room but nothing major. I have debris from a litter box for it to clean up and it does get nearly every single scrap that comes out. I have it scheduled to run nightly and it picks up way more dust and fur than the Roomba.
If you don't want the Neato to go somewhere your only choice is to close the door or place down a black magnetic strip. Very ugly compared to Roomba's lighthouse solution.
Another thing to mention is there is no option for it to clean a small area. It has to do the entire job.
I've taken a star off because the customer service is HORRIBLE. Mine was broken from day one due to a known defect (the battery is buzzing and not charging when connecting to the dock). I spent FIVE days and FIVE CALLS on the phone with customer support and it got me NOWHERE. First they said they'd give me a next day shipping label which sounded reasonable. That never came. After more and more calls getting nowhere they then wanted me to ship it ground and CHARGE MY CREDIT CARD AGAIN FOR ANOTHER ROBOT??? Again, I still don't know if I would ever get a shipping label. Truly frustrating.
