Euro-Pro Shark S3501 Deluxe Steam Pocket Mop Hard Surface Cleaner With 2 BONUS Microfiber Pads Review

Five months ago, I hesitantly purchased (directly from Amazon) the Euro-Pro Shark Steam Pocket Mop version with 2 heads and 4 microfiber pocket pads ... but I am SO glad I did. I LOVE this steam mop. I have TILE and WOOD floors throughout my house and they have been nearly impossible to keep clean (as evidenced by my kids' no-so-white sock bottoms). Anyway, I had been researching all of the various steam mops trying to find that "perfect" mop that would work miracles. I thought I had decided on one, but then (while flipping channels) saw the infomercial for this mop. It appeared to be EXACTLY what I was looking for. As with most infomercials, I was VERY skeptical that the product would REALLY do what it claimed to do. Luckily, I took the leap of faith, and purchased one from Amazon.com. I could not be happier with this mop. It REALLY does STEAM (alot) and get all of the gross built up dirt and grime off the floors.
I HATE cleaning floors! I'm more of a carpet person, so for me to say I love this product is absolutely amazing. I had a Hoover FloorMate (which I purchased 7 years ago), but it was ALOT of effort to clean up AFTER ... and it only had the brush scrubbers (so it didn't really WIPE the floors clean) AND it required the special Hoover cleaner (which I ruined mine by using Pine Sol ... which it specifically says not to use). Then I moved to the cheaper (although, not really after you buy all of the disposable pads and cleaner) Swiffer Wet Jet. It was ok for the quick clean-ups, IF my floor was already pretty much clean to begin with. But the Swiffer Wet Jet never CLEANED my floors. It was EXTREMELY frustrating to spend time and money cleaning and then STILL see the dirty sock bottoms (which meant the floors weren't really clean).
PLEASE NOTE: There are TWO (2) versions of the NEWER MODEL steam mop ... the PURPLE version has 2 heads (rectangle and triangle) with 5 PADS (2 rectangle, 2 triangle, 1 purple duster) and the SILVER/metallic version has 3 heads (XL rectangle, rectangle and triange) and 4 PADS (1 XL rectangle, 1 rectangle, 1 triangle, 1 purple duster). Both have the carpet glider. The XL kit, as well as extra PADS can all be purchased separately. I bought mine at Newegg.
The things I like about the Euro Pro Shark Steam Pocket Mop are ...
1. It has a LONG 30ft. cord so you are not constantly plugging and unplugging,
2. It has sturdy/thick microfiber machine washable/reusable TWO-SIDED pads (all of the stains don't come out, but they have held up VERY well to repeated washings),
3. It has a LARGE water tank, so you are not constantly re-filling the tank,
4. It has a SWIVEL head (3 different HEAD sizes/shapes) that FLIPS for two-sided cleaning,
5. It really STEAMS while cleaning and gets off the built on dirt,
6. It cleans WITHOUT any chemicals ... only tap water (I prefer using hot water),
7. It HEATS up quickly (under a minute ... although I usually let it heat for 5 minutes).
Things you should know ...
1. As with mopping, you need to vacuum or sweep BEFORE steam mopping (do this WHILE the mop is heating up).
2. Filling with hot water worked best for me.
3. PUMP/prime the mop about 10 times before you start mopping (this gets the STEAM really going).
4. Make sure you have AT LEAST 2 pads (4-sides of cleaning), especially if your floors are dirty.
5. Do NOT keep using the same pad side once it is dirty (so, check the bottom as you go) or your floors will not be cleaned and look streaky when they dry.
6. I don't *think* this mop actually gets hot enough to really sanitize (I'm not sure if any of them do), but I spray/squirt some vinegar on the floor as I go and mop over that and it seems to work.
7. The steam mop is made of hard plastic, so I'm not sure how well the handle itself is going to last over time with repeated pumpings, etc. I've noticed several reviewers commenting on a broken handle. I would say there is alot of truth in that ... since the manufacturer sells JUST the HANDLE for ~$30 as a "replacement part" on its website ... and I personally think that is an odd "replacement" part (so they must have ALOT of handles breaking). Still, I have not found anything else that does the job like this mop.
Overall, I am VERY HAPPY with this mop! Actually, don't mind (as much) cleaning the floors now ... since they do truly get clean!

Haan FS-30-Plus Steam Cleaning Floor Sanitizer Review

Haan FS-30-Plus Steam Cleaning Floor Sanitizer
Average Reviews:

I did not use the product on wood flooring, but on carpeting. I bought it to steam sanitize my carpeting, and was pleased with the outcome. I first cleaned my carpet, let it dry and used the steamer afterwards. I also used it on my sofa. The sanitizer must be kept level or a small amount of water will leak from the sides, but it dried rather quickly so I did not see it as a problem. For the price, it did what I expected it to do. Since I used it on carpet I do not know how it works on wood flooring. I have three dogs and several cats, and was pleased at how clean my sofa and carpet looked afterwards. I did not clean the sofa first, just ran the steamer over it, and it pilled cat hairs for easy removal that I thought I had manually removed, which was great, because it left my sofa looking clean and bright. If you want to kill germs and sanitize your carpet or floor, then this product may work for you as well.

It was a bit risky to buy this steamer, as this company doesn't accept any returns and you pay about $800.00. But I took my chance here.
Overall , I'm very pleased with it.I loved the compact design, the hose is a little bit clunky, but it doesn't bother me. It did an excellent job on cleaning my furniture and mattresses - it takes odor immediately and brings shine to the fabric.
It does a very good job on cleaning the carpet if it doesn't have any spots. With spots I've learned that you have to clean the spots separately before steaming the whole carpet, otherwise simply steaming it won't do it.
It's not so easy to steam the glass doors in your shower, it definitely requires some scrubbing. But if you do it on regular bases, it shouldn't be that hard.
Nylon brushes get ruined very quickly, I wish they include more of those. Now I'm looking for those to buy separately.
In general, I like this steamer and glad that I've purchased it, great thing to have .

SHARK Light & Easy Steam Mop Review

SHARK Light and Easy Steam Mop
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After reading the two negative reviews, I almost returned this mop unopened. But then I figured I'd at least try it first. I really can't figure out if the two negative reviews had bad mops or just completely unrealistic expectations. When I mop using a traditional mop, it's a hard & dirty job. I end up chipping at caked-on things with my finger nail. I get sweaty. My arms get a great work-out. It takes forever for my floors to clean & I have to keep the kids & pets away for an hour. That is hard cleaning.
This mop does not require any of the above. It is super easy and super light. It is so light-weight that it does not require any real arm pumping. I can't get over the person complaining about moving it seven times. I wonder if she was activating the steam mechanism? You could move this thing 20 times over the same spot and your arm still wouldn't be tired. No matter what type of cleaning you are doing, you go over the same strip more than once: vacuuming, cleaning toilets, counters, mopping, even something cosmetic like removing nail polish from your nails... The first swipe loosens the dirt and the second cleans it up. This is the same. It takes less than 10 seconds to go over a section twice.
I have two kids, a dog, and three cats. We track a lot of dirt into the house and have frequent spills. My floors feel like a full-time job some days. I have 1000 sq. ft of laminate and porcelain tile on my first floor. I did my entire downstairs in less time than it takes me to traditionally mop the kitchen alone. My floors are VERY clean & they dried almost instantly. All sticky stuff was loosened and lifted. I was surprised that ground-in dirt in the textured spots in my tile noticeably cleaned-up. I have been on my hands & knees with a toothbrush and abrasive cleaners trying to loosen that stuff up. I won't say it came up 100%, but it is noticeably lighter. And this is 10 years worth of life being ground into the textured tile.
My floors look and are clean. I am neither sweaty nor tired. My only complaints are: 1) the water reservoir could be larger. I had to refill a few times, which is why I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 stars. 2) my floors had more of a dull finish rather than shiny. I added a couple tablespoons of white vinegar to the water reservoir and this seemed to combat the dullness. I would imagine if you had a squirt-on cleanser (like Pledge Floors or Murphy's Oil soap), you could use that in addition to the plain water. I know part of the hype is "no cleaners needed," and while this is true, you might want to try something in addition if you like a shiny finish. Even squirting on a cleanser this is still much easier than traditional mopping. It also navigated corners and baseboards extremely well with the swivel-head.
I will never traditional-mop again. This is beyond easy, faster, and so much less labor-intensive. Not to mention easier than dragging buckets, cleaner, and a mop up and down the stairs to do multiple spots.

I read a lot of mixed reviews on these before I went out and bought one. While it doesn't clean as well as it does on the commercials (not that I expected it to) it does a pretty good job. For me, I will sacrifice a bit of cleanliness for convenience, and it is SO much more convenient to use this than it is to lug out a mop! Some people complained about washing the pads. I didn't think it was that big of a deal. I do laundry almost every day here, so I throw it in a garment bag and wash it with the rest of the laundry. It works a lot better than the Swiffer Wet Jet I was previously using, and doesn't leave a residue behind as the Wet Jet did. I found that with repeated cleanings, my floors are showing a real difference compared to the Wet Jet. I think the Wet Jet left behind a lot of dirt and grime, so the shark needed to wash the floor a few times before it was all up. Now my floors look as clean as they did when they were first installed. The only complaint I have is the size of the water tank. Others have complained about this as well. To wash the downstairs bathroom, hallway, and kitchen (all tile) I have to fill it up 2-3 times. While it's not the end of the world, it is a little inconvenient. I bought the Shark at Sam's Club, and it came with a hand-held steamer bottle. I didn't think I would use that at all, but it has been an unexpected bonus! I have soap-scum in one of my showers that I had given up on. I tried every cleaning product. I've scrubbed it. Nothing worked. I tried the steam bottle yesterday, and most of it came off with the steam and some scrubbing. I'll probably need to go over it a couple of times before it's 100% clean, but it did a much better job than anything else I've used. It also works great for cleaning my brushed-nickel faucets. Everything else I used left streaks, and the steamer leaves them streak-free and shiny. Overall, I'm very satisfied with this purchase.

We have allergies, so most of our floors are hard covered. I have tried the scooba, which works well but only does one room at a time, and requires a bit of set up. This product is a third of the price of scooba, and works amazingly well. I suggest vacuuming first, since you do not rinse the mop head and dont want to risk scratching your floor with sandy residue. Then simply fill the mop with water, wait 30 seconds and you're ready to go. I was impressed by the way the mop cleaned, evident by the dirt on the pad! We have one old original wood floor in our bedroom and was a bit leery of trying it on the wood, but seriously, when my husband got home, he asked me what I did to make the floor look so nice! It steamed away stains we were not able to get out with any other method. I love not having to use chemicals on the floors in order to clean them. This mop comes with 5 machine washable pads, so you will not need to buy replacements for a long time, although when you do, you will note that they are expensive! It also comes with a glider for carpets, so you can steam and refresh them. It is a bit awkward to use it, but does the job.

Equipped with a powerful 1550-watt heating system, this environmentally friendly upright steam cleaner heats up in about 30 seconds and offers a chemical-free way to clean and sanitize carpets and sealed hard-floor surfaces throughout the home. The unit works with regular tap water, and its 8-ounce water tank can be refilled at any time for nonstop cleaning--no need for sloshing buckets of water or effortful rinsing and wringing like with conventional mops. The forward pushing motion of the mop releases steam automatically, leaving floors clean and virtually dry with no chemical residues. Even more, it comes with an absorbent triple-action microfiber pad that not only removes tough dirt and grime, scuff marks, sticky messes, muddy footprints, and more from tile, linoleum, vinyl, and other floor surfaces, but it also can be machine-washed as needed for repeated use. Other highlights include a 12-inch cleaning path, a nonslip ergonomic grip to reduce hand and wrist stress, a long 25-foot power cord, and a lightweight design at just 3 pounds. Five microfiber cleaning pads come included, as well as a carpet glider for freshening up rugs and carpets. The steam mop measures 5-1/2 by 10 by 49 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

Shark Steam Mop, Electric, S3101 Review

Shark Steam Mop, Electric, S3101
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
(update: This review was updated on 11-2-09 after I got to compare the Bissell as well as add notes about the Ladybugg steamer at the bottom)
I live in a neighborhood where EVERY home is "green built certified" this means that, to have that certification, the builder built no homes with carpet. All the main floors are polished concrete and the upper floors wood. The bathrooms all have tile and/or slate in every home.
Because of this, as you could imagine, steam mops are quite the neccessity...not only because they get the hard surfaces better than anything else, but because they are also "green" and clean chemical free. I'll be honest, for us...that's a bonus but we weren't cleaning chemical free before. We like chemical free for our pet's paws but I'll confess I was mopping with chemicals before I got my steamer and just kept the pets out of the room while doing it because, up until then, I couldn't get it clean any other way.
Okay, so that said...we decided to have a steamer show down to compare 5 different steamers because my friends and I knew as long as we are in these homes we are gonna have to have a steamer to get all these hard floors clean...we may as well figure out which one to buy next go round. Because my own home is graced with 2 cats, 3 dogs, and two gregarious cooks, my kitchen floor (which had not ever been cleaned by a steamer since my steamer had just arrived) was the testing spot.
Mind you, I vaccuum twice per week and do a mega mop twice a week. I THOUGHT I had pretty clean floors in spite of my pet capacity.
I thought wrong. These picked up dirt so well it's scary
So here's the results:
1. steam mops are the mac daddys of clean floors. What these things picked up was tremendous and no comparison to my vigorous prior constant major mopping.
2. So now I'll break down the elements of each mop we used and then go into more detail about each at the end.
We tried out:
"S": The shark by Europro (update on the Shark Deluxe in notes below as well)
"E" The Envirosteamer by Eureka
"H" the haan steamer
"M" the Monster
"B" The Bissell Green Tea
CORD LENGTH: so you don't have to stop and unplug and replug in somewhere else:
Shark ( will be referred to as S):20 feet
Envirosteamer (will be referred to as E): 25 feet
Haan: (will be referred to as H)19'8"
Monster (will be referred to as M): 25 feet
Bissell (will be referred to as B) 17 feet
STEAM TEMPERATURE: this is a primary element. The hotter the steam, the more dirt picked up and hot steam will also kill parasites, mold and mildew and loosen more dirt:
S 110 degrees. lame
E 220 degrees. very hot
H 212 degrees. very hot
M 266 degrees. hottest...although the envirosteamer and haan seemed plenty hot enough. The shark didn't clean nearly as well and this was one reason. 110 degrees just isn't going to melt off stuck on grime.
B 125 degrees. Note that, because of this low steam temperature the manual said that if I wanted to sanitize the floor or pick up caked on spills, I had to hold the steamer on the spot for 15 seconds but no more than 20 because that could damage some floors. Now I don't know about you, but if I can sanitize with one swipe of the other steamers because of their sanitizing temps my floor will be done WAY faster but I don't have a timer to worry about the extra 5 secons where my wood floors could get damaged. My sink water is hotter than this so it would take less time to use a regular mop if I have to hold the steamer on every spot of my floor for 15 seconds to santize. Just sayin
BUILD:
We found how it was made corresponded with issues with the steamer. The Shark, for example, was quite flimsy and they actually sell replacement handle kits because so many people have issues with the handle breaking! We know this because my neighbor's shark broke and the store had a replacement handle kit on the shelf because he said "it happens often". That's an extra cost.
Envirosteamer: Was 5.4 lbs which made it lightweight but strong enough that you didn't have to press down to clean. Very well made and strong parts
Haan: not made as well as the envirosteamer but it's more expensive so this was a surprise. A bit flimsy and you need to press down on it more to clean at 3.15 lbs.
Monster: hefty and well made at 9 lbs but a bit too heavy unless you want a good workout. (Note: They have changed the Monster handles on the mops now and they are all plastic and people are having breakage issues)
Bissell: It's 8.4 pounds but that includes a water filter that you have to get for this one (see notes below)
WATER CAPACITY: Very important because having to stop and add more water just adds on to the time you have to spend cleaning, especially if you are cleaning a hallway or livingroom or some other area that has no sink:
S: only holds 10 oz of water. Lasted for 10 miinutes of cleaning
E: holds 20 oz. of water. Lasted for over 20 minutes of cleaning (we stopped at 20 and it was still going)
H: holds 11.83 oz of water. Lasted for 13 minutes of cleaning
M: holds 17 oz. of water. Lasted for 15 minutes of cleaning
B: holds 13 oz of water, lasted for 12.5 minutes of cleaning AND you have to undo and remove the tank from the machine every time you fill it up then hook it back on and the steam tank is on the handle rather than the base so the steam doesn't flow directly out after heating up which may explain why it's not as hot once it leaves the machine. The way this mop is made the water flows past heating elements which can, according to Bissell, develop calcium deposits on it so this is the only mop where, because of this, you also have to use a water filter with it and replace the water filter when there is build up which means and extra 12 bucks every few months. The better mops are made to heat the water in a metal tank so this is not an issue and you pour the water directly into the tank.
STEAM HOLES: We found a difference although you'd think they'd all be the same. The shark only had one hole that the steam came out of so it wasn't cleaning things on the edges, just in one spot. All the others had steam coming from bottom and sides.
SIZE: The taller it is the less stooping, the wider the mop head, the more it covers
S: 40"Hx12"Wx7"D
E: 50"Hx13.25"Wx6.75"D (the fact that this depth was smaller made it reach under applicances better...it fit better under things)
H: 50.5x11.5x7.5
M: 48x12.7.5
B: 45.25H (this was uncomfortably short) x11 x8.4 (even though this didn't fit under cabinets because of the depth it did swivel the best)
Conclusion of comparison: First it must be pointed out that, in order to use the shark and the Bissell, you had to keep pumping the water. This was the most annoying feature of anything...the others just steamed on their own and didn't wear out your fingers. Hated this feature of the shark and Bissell. We liked that the Monster and the Shark and Envirosteamer and the Bissell came with 2 cleaning pads rather than one. The Haan only came with one at the time of the review (I double checked since when she bought hers it was also only one and as of today, that hasn't changed) so that ups the price even more because I can't imagine only wanting one to clean. All worked well on sanitizing mattresses and showers. too.
But the winner picked by all of us unanimously as the mop we want to have for our next steam mop order?
The Eureka Envirosteamer. It picked up the most dirt, was made as well as the Monster but was less expensive, held the most water, emitted the most very hot steam so it sanitized as well, lasted 3 times as long with one water resevor fillup as the others, and had a cord as long as the monster. BUT if you have carpets than I would recommend the Monster because it has a carpet attachment that allows you to steam clean your carpets and it picked up pretty close to the same amount of dirt as the Eureka Envirosteamer, and had close to the same features...a bit heavier though but that may make it last even longer. It is costlier, but to clean 2 surfaces I would think that might make it worth it.
UPDATE: The Haan just started including 2 pads with the mop according to the product description page. Not that this changes our opinion since it didn't work as well and the parts were flimsier, but it should be noted that this issue of not having enough cleaning pads has now been resolved and is equal to the other mops.
ANOTHER UPDATE ON THE SHARK DELUXE: 1. The Shark came out with a new machine that holds more water and has a longer cord BUT it still only shoots out the water to 110 degrees so it won't sanitize or get rid of trapped grime at this "bathwater" temperature.
Another update: I haven't tried it yet but was told about an even better mop than the Eureka Envirosteamer but I can't personally afford it...still, it's worth mentioning in case you can. It's called the Ladybug XL2300 and is a canister steam mop. It heats the water to 298 degrees (woah!) so it's a super sanitizer but it's over a thousand bucks. It also comes with 6 towels. I didn't include it in my review because I haven't ever tried it and I wanted to only include mops I personally tried but it's got great enough stats that, even though it's out of my price range, I thought I'd pass it on as a super sanitizer when I read about it.
Also: Don't spend money buying extra pads for the Eureka. I was in a pinch and used a kitchen dish towel...the rectangular kind...just clip on both ends. It worked just as good or better...because they are thinner so the steam penetrates faster and therefore reaches the floor hotter...Read more›

Shark Steam Pocket Multi-Purpose Portable Steamer, SC630 Review

I bought my Shark steamer on a whim. We had just purchased a bank owned home and it had been left with a rotting chicken in the refrigerator. The tile had a dried stream of "blech" from the refrigerator to the lowest part of the floor where it had pooled. I bought the steamer to sanitize the floor along this path. Something amazing happened when I used it- the grout changed color DRAMATICALLY! I posted photos so you can see for yourself. At first I thought it was somehow bleaching the grout, but then I noticed that the grout around the perimeter of the room was indeed a much lighter color- matching the tile color. EWWWWW! I had previously mopped this floor several times with a regular mop and bucket, a Swiffer wetjet, and even along this same path with a toothbrush and cleaner on my hands and knees. Nothing did what the steamer did with just water and the nylon brush attachment. I dragged the whole family in to show them because I could not believe what I was seeing! I hated the floor when we moved in. I hated the dark grout and how chopped up the tile looked with the dark grout lines. After cleaning- the grout blends into the tile and the floor has a completely different look! It's truly amazing- check out my photos- you HAVE to see it to believe. I haven't tried any of the other attachments, but I have received a steam burn on my hand from working so close to the nozzle on the floor. It's hot, just as they warn. My only complaint is that you must hold the trigger for continuous steam, and when using it continuously- it runs out of water fairly fast. Don't know how it does if you are pumping it and steaming in short bursts. Frankly, I don't care- it has done more for my floor than I had hoped.

Shark Vac Then Steam Mop Review

Shark Vac Then Steam Mop
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We have a great room (kitchen, dining, living area) that has slate flooring. After LOADS of research about floor cleaners, I decided to buy a shark steam mop from Costco. I chose this mainly for the cheaper price tag and the great return service at Costco. (I kept the box.) After using it twice I was happy enough but then I saw the 2 in 1 advertise. Reading the reviews online I was torn. I decided to take a chance and ordered the mop through KOHL's using a 30% off coupon. I got the 2 in 1 for the same price as the regular steam mop and I am VERY happy! I have children, no pets and live in the country. We get a LOT of sand tracked in and the vac sucks it right up! My large area rug sheds a lot of wool fuzz and there again... the vac gets it right up. The "snack" crumbs left by the kiddies are also no match for the vac. I am not sure why the other reviewers say the vac suction doesn't work??? If you know slate, then you know it is uneven and has a natural variation in height, other cleaners I have tried didn't work (such as the Hoover Floor Mate). This Shark Vac then Steam mop worked!! It got every bit of debris off of the floor, even in the low spots and grout lines. Due to the uneven nature of slate at times I had to push it a little harder to get over the "bumps" but by no means was this "exhausting" as another person put it. I would even recommend it to my family members who have arthritis, it is easy to use. Switching to steam took the 30 seconds to heat up and then gave a solid steam for the endurance of the cleaning, I had about half of the water left in the container after cleaning. (It didn't run out and I don't feel it needs to be larger.) I like the clean feel it leaves on the floor and would not want to add anything to the water, I shy away from chemicals and extra smells due to allergies. Using the Shark is SO much better then hands and knees cleaning! I highly recommend!

Euro-Pro Shark S3501N Deluxe Steam Pocket Mop Review

Euro-Pro Shark S3501N Deluxe Steam Pocket Mop
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It started simple enough. A friend said, "You HAVE to get a Shark steamer mop thing. It's awesome."
But if you're a type-A like me, that's where the simplicity ends.
I researched the (older model) Shark and because of the not so great reviews, I ended up ordering the Eureka ENVIRO STEAMER. I chose the Eureka primarily because of a comparison review by a user. Turns out, alot of the qualities written in the review, like water tank size and cord length, didn't apply anymore.
So then, I ordered the Haan FS20-Plus 800-Watt Steam Cleaning Floor Sanitizer with Deluxe Sanitizing Tray based on the same reviewer's awesome comparison. But again, the info didn't match up to what I ordered/got.
Today, I finally broke down and just went to a brick and morter Bedbathandbeyond. The guy was very helpful and showed me the various Sharks and told me this new model (the most expensive at $119) had a bigger tank than previous.
So, here I am with 3 different steamer mops. Since I buy most of my stuff based on reviews, I thought I would take the time to do a very non-scientific comparison.
*Euro-Pro Shark S3501 Deluxe Steam Pocket Mop ($106 with my 20%coup plus tax at BBB)
*Haan FS20-Plus 800-Watt Steam Cleaning Floor Sanitizer with Deluxe Sanitizing Tray ($90 via Amazon)
*Eureka ENVIRO STEAMER ($69 via Amazon)
OUT OF THE BOX:
All three were very easy to put together. Handle either snapped/or screwed into base.
HANDLE:
All are plastic and for the most part, feel a bit flimsy. None really stood out above the others.
CORD:
Shark has 30' (the longest)
Haan and Eureka were same... about 18'.
WATER TANK: ((my top priority, behind obviously cleaning))
Shark -- approx 1 3/4 cups* (fill cup provided is not marked)
Eureka -- 1 1/4 cups* (fill cup provided is not marked but manual says capacity total 12 oz)
Haan -- 1 cup* (fill cup provided is marked)
*cup is based on the cup that came with Haan, the only one clearly marked. So I just filled the others and then dumped into the Haan cup. Hence, minor discrepancy. If you convert 12 oz into cups, it's 1 1/2 cups... but for some reason when I filled the Eureka container and dumped it into the Haan cup, it only filled it 1 1/4 ways. Go figure.
CLEANING PAD:
Shark's cleaning cloth covers the head but the design allows you to flip it so you can use both sides with ease. The whole head actually flips on the mop so it's not like you're taking the cloth off and then putting it back on. (2 rectangular cloths included, along with 2 triangular cloths, for the triangular head -- I guess for corners or tight spaces. But I have not used or tried out. Also, 1 fluffy looking thing that's for dusting...again, have not tried this out either.)
**edited to add 1/8/2010** I've used the purple duster on wood floors and love it! Cleans great.
Eureka -- waffle type of towel, held in place by clamps on the base. After 1 wash, the trim started coming off and it already had a very worn/old look to it. Not sure how long it would have held up. (2 included)
Haan -- a thick, microfiber trapazoid that just sort of velcros onto the bottom. Very sturdy. (2 included)
OVERALL CLEANING (see photo):
Obviously, not very scientific but I swiped a wet paper towel on a portion of my tile that I was planning to clean.
I split the area into thirds so each steam mop was used in one section (I have large stone tile with deep grout lines (see photo).
Then I went over that cleaned section with another wet paper towel to see how much dirt could be picked up.
NONE: (first paper towel on left) Clearly, the dirtiest.
Haan: cleaned the best (again, not scientific just how much was picked up on a paper towel after using the steam mop)
Eureka Enviro: cleaned the worst (but obviously, still great, compared to nothing)
Shark: in the middle.
CONCLUSION:
I'm keeping the Shark because of several factors:
*big water chamber (thus longer steam time)
*long cord (convenience of not using extension cord or unplugging and re-plugging)
*dual head cleaning cover (pretty handy)
*complete swivel head... but because of this feature, the drawback is that you have to lean the handle up against a counter because it won't stand on its own, like the Haan or Eureka.
I won't go into detail about the wetness factor because frankly, all three left the surface wet but all three dried pretty quickly (much more quickly than when I use a traditional sponge mop/pinesol). This was really not an issue for me.
OVERALL, seriously, I would be thrilled with any one of these... because they do cut down tile floor cleaning time tremendously-- and without using chemicals. Any one of them clearly beats the old mop and bucket method.
I guess it comes down to how you prioritize the features. For me, after this exhaustive research -- I'm sticking with the Shark! Good luck on yours... and my you NOT find yourself in a similar dilemma where you're obsessing over minor details like I did.
EXTRA FYI:
"Pocket" vs "deluxe" -- what's the difference between the gold and purple set?
Both Pocket (gold) and Deluxe(purple) are priced the same but the Pocket comes with ONE set of cleaning cloths. But you do get a third head -- that's an XL rectagular head. The purple set comes with two sets of cleaning cloths. I think for the money, the purple set is the way to go.
Hope that helps!
