I'm not sure how long this has been out but I'm surprised no one has reviewed it yet. I LOVE this sweeper for my hard wood floors in the kitchen. I have a toddler who makes a mess every time he eats and I keep this in the corner near the table. As part of my clean up routine at every meal, I just grab this out of the corner, turn it on and in 5 seconds I have all the crumbs vacuumed up off the floor. It is so lightweight and easy to turn on and off. It swivels as I turn it so it can reach around the chair and table legs. If it were not for the ease of this sweeper, I would probably have crumbs on the floor most of the time. But with this machine I can feel good about the fact that at least my floor is not filthy! I cannot say the same for the rest of the kitchen, sure wish they had something like this for it.

Dirt Devil BD20010 Sonic Sweep Sweeper, red Review

Dirt Devil BD20010 Sonic Sweep Sweeper, red

(More customer reviews)
The Dirt Devil Sonic Sweep cordless electric carpet sweeper is not a vacuum cleaner. It uses a rapidly rotating brush and "sonic sweep" vibrations to loosen dirt in carpet. The sonic sweep feature can be turned off when the sweeper is being used on bare floors. It is very light and easy to maneuver. It weighs just a few pounds and it's not more than about a foot wide. It looks like a nicely designed play vacuum cleaner for children, except that it has a full length handle. It is a simple machine with no filters to replace or clean. The dirt tray is very easy to empty. The huge surprise was how well this thing worked, when it worked at all. I bought one and used it a few times durng the next week or two. It didn't do as good a job as my upright vacuum, but it came remarkably close, with about a tenth the effort. But then it died. A part came loose and fell off. I returned the sweeper and got another. That one didn't last ten minutes! It is a shame, because this would be a very useful convenient sweeper if it were reliable. As it is, I have to give up on it and advise people to avoid it.

This is a great cordless stick vac.
I use it almost daily to pick up kitty kibble crumbs, cat litter, hair form 4 cats, food bits in the kitchen, dirt and so on. It sure beats sweeping almost 1000+ square feet of tile every day. It also works great for quick cleaning area rugs (with short pile).
I have been getting about 20 minutes of charge off of it, but most of the time it doesn't take me that long to do my hard floors.
The dirt cup and filter need to be cleaned just about every day . I just pop the filter out, dump in the trash, tap the dust out of the filter, reassemble and it's ready to go again.
It is definitely NOT a replacement for a real vacuum cleaner, but it works fabulously for what it is.

i bought this item at a Best Buy and it seemed nice with the swivel features and the cool colors. so i brought it home and let in charge for a day (after i assembled it). i tried it out. i love the removable mini vacuum. but the battery only lasts for about 15 minutes. and its contents fall out once you've finished vacuuming, which is quite unfunctional. i like this vacuum otherwise, but i decided to return it. :( hope this helped some of you decide.

This is the most INCREDIBLE stick vac and hand vac! I really LOVE it! I am used to my Kirby and while I adore it, I was really curious about this item. My opinion is that Electrolux has a wonderful reputation and paired with the potentially extreme convenience I decided to give this a try. I have 2 babies, 2 kitties, hardwood floors throughout with some ceramic tile and a couple of area rugs. This item is fabulous on each and every surface! I use it on all floor surfaces, rugs, furniture, even bedding (ie: kitties go under the bed leaving their fur on the dust ruffles) with great results! It will pick up kitty hair, remodeling dust, new rug shedding, cheerios, and more! I've seen gripes about emptying the 'chamber' and, in my opinion, if you don't want your stick vac to pick up debris - find a cheaper stick vac! This one is absolutely wonderful, worth every penny and then some! Buy It!

Electrolux Unirapido 2 in 1 Stick/Hand Vac EL852A Review

Electrolux Unirapido 2 in 1 Stick/Hand Vac EL852A
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Electrolux Unirapido is a floor-only stick-vac device, and a great one! Bought mine to implement a 2011 NYE resolution to keeping a cleaner house. A week into the new year, so far, so good, in part with this tool.Conducted a lot of internet research prior to buying, and purchased mine at a local big box store, (Begins with 'L', rhymes with 'tows') and couldn't be more pleased. Capacity double that of many other models I found, and 12-volt power translates into more suction and longer run time. There are two different power settings, 'normal', (upon which the stated 20-minute run time is based) as well as 'high', which is useful for area rugs or door mats. The beater brush runs all the time, but the bristles on it appear soft enough to make it safe to run on hardwood floors. Our home is mostly laminate, with some tile and flat-weave or short plush area rugs. For my purposes, this stickvac does just what is needed: great for daily quick cleaning, picking up dust, dog hair, and the debris 3 dogs + 1 heavily-used dog door can track into the house. The articulated head means easy maneuvering around cabinets and furniture, the easy-to-empty dust bin means quick maintenance. The charging stand can either be attached to the wall or sit on the floor; the vac hooks onto the stand for charging and storage. The interior filter cages (two) are easily rinsed and quick to dry, but I'll be ordering a spare set just in case. The only thing I find annoying is the static created by running the plastic stickvac over the carpet causes dog hair to cling to the back of the cleaning head, at the neck where the body handle connects to the head. A minor inconvenience, and a common occurence I also have with my main vacuum cleaner, a Dyson Stowaway canister. For doing the 'middles' or quick touchup cleaning, this Unirapido can't be beat. Minimal assembly is required, (one screw to assemble the handle) and allow 24 hours for charging prior to first use. Nearly all of the packaging can be recycled, (only one plastic bag, with molded fiberboard box inserts) so that's also plus. (No styrofoam!)Arrives with a two-year warranty, and hopefully this unit will last longer than that. A very useful tool to keep in the Clean House Arsenal.

Oreck Floor Sweeper: The Restaurateur 12.5" Review

Oreck Floor Sweeper: The Restaurateur 12.5
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this for my wife for her birthday. Stop laughing, she asked for one of these things. I looked at Bissell, Fuller Brush, Oreck/Hoky, Ewbank and some of the battery powered units. My wife specifically did not want to deal with remembering to charge and battery life issues. I found that everything I looked at was using older NiCad technology rather than Li Ion or Polymer Li Ion meaning they would all suffer from memory effect and degraded performance. Scratch those. So, it came down to the 125 year old technology invented by Mr. Bissell circa 1875. Bissell and Fuller have stuck with the tried and true roller with bristles like a hair brush. Hoky, now owned by Oreck has innovated with a roller that uses a series of plastic blades to replace the bristles. It's supposed to allow the unit to deal with wet stuff as well as dry stuff. Also, the rubber squeegee blades allow for easier removal of hair and other long fibers that can get embedded in bristles.
Does it work? Yeah, amazingly well. But let me be perfectly clear. This thing produces zero suction. It is not a vacuum cleaner. It works purely by mechanical action provided by.....you. Some reviews of the Bissell unit appeared to reflect the buyers belief that somehow this sort of device will replace a vacuum with suction and a powered beater bar. It won't! But for a quick cleanup of surface litter after mealtime prep and eating with 2 - 3 kids at the table, it's fantastic. And once again, it's powered by you and it relies on mechanical action. You need to give it a brisk push. More brisk = more results. You can't just slowly move it over the offending material and expect good things to happen. Grab that sucker and get aggressive with those crumbs.
So far, we've used it on hardwood floors and an persian wool carpet in the kitchen. It does well on both. I'm surprised that another reviewer found that it didn't pick up hair. I sprinkled a bunch of Cheerios on the persian rug to test it and ended up with carpet fibers, hair, and a bunch of other stuff I hadn't even seen on the carpet. So why only four stars? The price. I think [...]is a little steep considering the basic technology is more than 100 years old and the materials are basically plastic and a little steel. The Bissell can be bought for less than a third of this price. But, for the extra money you get an easy to clean roller that also deals with wet sloppy stuff.
Highly recommended.

Electrolux Pronto 2-in-1 Stick Vac - EL1000A Review

Electrolux Pronto 2-in-1 Stick Vac - EL1000A

I bought this relatively pricey combo vacuum with the hopes of replacing two other devices: our cordless Dustbuster and corded Hoover Stick Broom. Unfortunately the Electrolux usually sits in it charger unused as it just doesn't perform well.
PROS: looks great, lightweight, very maneuverable around and under furniture, charging base has handy light that doubles as nightlight
CONS: very weak suction, clogs easily, design flaws for removable handheld, tends to scatter dirt instead of collecting it
We have 100% hardwood floors and tile/linoleum throughout the house, and our hope was to find a cordless upright that we could use for quick jobs of sucking up pet hair and dirt around entryway doors, etc. At first glance the Electrolux seemed the perfect fit: it was cordless but could be used on floors without having to bend over, and for tight spot jobs the removable handheld unit would negate the need for our Dustbuster. Unfortuntely it just doesn't perform well at all. Even for light hair and dirt jobs the upright clogs far too easily. There is a piece of flexible tubing leading from the bottom of the vacuum to the handheld unit (the handheld snaps into place near the base and actually does the suction), and the angle of this narrow, flexible tubing is about 90 degrees and the smallest leaf or twig causes a clog. If the tubing is completely clear the suction is decent enough for very lightweight sweeping, but even at that point the spinning brush in the base of the upright unit tends to throw small debris aside before the suction can pull it up into the bag (for example, I've tried using it to clean up light amounts of stray litter debris around the cat box but it tends to just throw the litter around the floor instead of sucking it up). I find that compared to the Hoover I have to go over the same floor area with several more sweeps to and fro to get all of the hair and dirt.
Other annoyances include the inability to empty the dirt collector without removing the handheld from the upright. Also the handheld power button will not stay in an On position without holding it tightly with a finger or thumb (when using as an upright the power will stay on by itself). The mouth opening of the handheld is also much smaller than your typical Dustbuster and even for small jobs takes several more sweeps back and forth to collect the same amount of dirt of just a few sweeps with a Dustbuster.
So overall I find myself using our two older vacuums and even going to the added trouble of putting an extension cord on the Hoover to do general house vaccuming instead of even bothering to pull the Electrolux out of its stand. Even though it's cordless it just seems to take longer and more effort to get the same amount of work done. It's basically not much more than an expensive nightlight for our laundry room. I really wish I had the good experience with it I seem to see other Amazon users reporting, but alas I cannot honestly say I feel this device delivers anywhere near what it promises.

Having just put tile throughout the house, and living with 3 dogs and 2 cats, I hated hauling out the heavy vacuum and plugging it in. And then unplugging and plugging again and again all the while dragging it around the house.. This little wonder does the whole house, is light and does the job. The only complaint I could possibly have is that the dirt cup is quite small and has to be emptied frequently. This, of course, would vary depending on how much animal hair accumulates on ones floor.

I would heartily reccommend this device because of it's ease of use, lack of weight and powerful suction.
I love it and could sell them door to door they are so great.

I purchased this vacuum when I got tired of lugging out the big vac to keep up with dog hair and kid crumbs. Sweeping just made things worse by making the dog hair fly around instead of helping.
So, solution...a lightweight cordless vac WITH a small duster for sofas. This vacuum has been perfect for our family. The battery lasts long enough (10-15 minutes) for me to relatively thoroughly clean the kitchen floor and then the other 3 rooms that are wood floors. The dog hair and crumbs are picked up between thorough floor cleanings which is exactly the thing I needed. The removeable "dustbuster" is perfect for crumbs and hair on furniture and in tighter corners. This vacuum is not meant to be the end all vacuum for your house. It is perfect for the 1-2 times a day you may want to keep doghair and crumbs in check. I leave this vacuum in the laundry room plugged is so it is always ready to go.
There is an unexpected added bonus...my boys LOVE to use it! It is the perfect weight and height (with the handle down) for kids! They get it out and put it away on their own. I rarely let them sweep with a broom because it just made more work for me, but now I have to keep them from fighting over it:)
So, if dog hair and dirt acculumate quickly in your house and you dread pulling out the big vac to keep up and sweeping frustrates you, this is the vacuum for you.

Weighing just 6 pounds, this two-in-one bagless upright vacuum cleaner works great for thorough cleaning as well as for quick pickups of everyday messes like crumbs and spilled cereal on the kitchen floor. As an upright stick vac, the unit picks up dust and dirt from carpets, rugs, and bare-floor surfaces--a flip of the switch turns the brushroll off to protect hardwood floors and delicate rugs. The unit's low-profile head and smooth-rolling wheels make it possible to clean under furniture and around obstacles, while its cordless design ensures maximum convenience when moving from room to room. Best of all, the stick vac converts to a handheld unit for cleaning stairs, furniture, or car interiors. To remove the handheld vacuum cleaner from the base of the larger unit, simply push in on the release button and tilt the cleaner out and away. A crevice nozzle comes included for accessing hard-to-reach areas. Other highlights include a two-motor system, 9-3/5 volts of power, standard filtration, a comfortable oval-shaped handle, and an easy-to-empty dust cup. We bought this when our first child learned to crawl and we had to clean crumbs, etc off the floor before she ate them. Now we're again finding it indispensable for number two and three (now ages 1, 3, and 5)
I like it for:
1) Handle installs and removes quickly and easily.
2) vacuum hangs easy on the charger - some other ones we've had are tricky to pop into the charger correctly if you want it to be installed vertically.
3) Power roller bar - really sucks up those cheerios quickly, even on hard floors.
4) Easily removable battery - charger has a second battery charging slot so you can swap out. When I bought this the cashier at Target told me that this was what they used to clean up spills in the store. It's now almost 3 years old and the battery is starting to show it's age (It's easily removable so I'll be buying a spare soon)
UPDATE: The original battery is still going strong. To eliminate the "Memory" I just ran down the battery between charges rather than keeping it on the charger "topping off" all the time. Works great now, as good as new!
UPDATE2 - after 5-1/2 years the original battery is finally dead. OEM replacement part cost me $19.99 including shipping, good as new!!!!
TIP: When emptying I find it handy to use a full size vacuum cleaner to get the filter extra clean.
If you've found this review helpful, please let me know!

Based on a phone call to Hoover: If you want your battery to last and work properly do not store the battery on the charger or in the vacuum. Fully charge the battery and use it in the vacuum. If the battery runs out, fully charge it again (3 hours and a light on the charger will pulse when ready) and then store it separately. If the battery has not run out you can choose to recharge it so it fully loaded (again, take it off the charger when the light pulses) and then store it separately. Since a full charge only takes 3 hours an overnight charge is not recommended.

Bissell Versus Cordless Bare-Floor Vacuum, 21R9 Review

Bissell Versus Cordless Bare-Floor Vacuum, 21R9
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am a huge fan of Bissell products and everything that I have ever bought from the company has been a roaring success in our house. We have the Bissell Quick Steamer and the Bissell Steam Mop. Both of these little vacuums get a workout in our house, but I have yet to find a cordless vacuum that I am happy with. We bought a Shark which I absolutely loved until it burned out two years later. The next investment was our Dirt Devil Vibe. The suction was great for about a month and then it just stopped picking up. Since then I have been making do with a good old-fashioned broom and pan, but I always keep my eyes peeled for a cordless vacuum that works.
Bissell sent over their new Bissell Versus Cordless Bare Floor Vacuum and I couldn't wait to open it up. As with all cordless vacuums it requires a good charging before it will work so I had to wait until the next day to use it. Upon it charging, I was ready to roll and I had two willing and messy children to help me break it in. After a morning breakfast of cornflakes (for Ethan) and Cheerios (for Emily), we had the perfect scenario for testing out this vacuum.
The first thing you will notice about this vacuum is that it is an unusual shape. The design might not make sense at first, but when you are trying to get in those crevices around your furniture, it makes complete sense. It is a V-shape design that allows you to get right against your kitchen table and chairs without having to manuever around it. It does require a little manuevering though when you are trying to get around the outer perimeters of your room, but you just line it up against the wall and push around that way.
This vacuum has great suction and within minutes, I could see that it had picked up every last little cornflake bit and Cheerio. Again, the design factor comes into play on this model because the V-shaped design helps so that you aren't scooting stuff around (as I had experienced with other cordless models) and actually suctions it into the center.
While intended for bare floors, you could also use this vacuum on low pile carpeting. The vacuum is brushless so you aren't having to deal with trapped hairs and threads underneath. Best of all, it is bagless and has any easy to release cup where you can dump out what you catch...like Cheerios or cornflakes!
I would highly recommend this vacuum and can't wait to put it to the Clark test and see if it can survive a few years of hard work in our house.
Here are a few easy tips for picking a cordless vacuum that will be a good fit for your family:
1. You will be much happier with whatever you are purchasing if you can test drive it. Borrow one from a friend or just take them through a spin in the aisle. It would be ideal if you could use it, but if you can't just try pushing it around to see if it glides easily.
2. Pick a store that has a good return policy. I knew that Target is pretty good about returns, so I picked that store. In the case of the Shark, I read a story of one lady who had went through three in a month so it is good that the return policy would allow her to do that.
3. Online stores are great and might have more affordable pricing on these, but the pure and simple fact is, if it is defective or you just plain hate it, you have to ship that back. Who wants to be running a sweeper over to the post office? Physical stores are better in this case.
4. Sometimes extras (which cost extra) aren't worth it. Stick to the basic functions and look for ones that offer the best sweeper for your money.
5. Just like all things, the highest price does not make it the best. Some of the higher priced models had a lot less power than the one I purchased.

Lightweight and easy to use, this cordless stick vac works great for keeping low-pile area rugs and all bare-floor surfaces clean throughout the house. Its unique V-shaped base directs large debris into the center suction path while picking up fine particles along the arms. The angle of the arms increase air flow, allowing for greater suction at the end points of the base, which means the unit captures debris that normally gets left behind in corners and other hard-to-reach areas. In addition, it provides a comfortable handle, a bagless dirt container, a low-profile base for access under furniture, and a foot-activated power switch. The rechargeable bare-floor vacuum cleaner delivers up to 20 minutes of cleaning power per charge and measures 8-4/5 by 10-1/2 by 43-1/2 inches.

I bought this Dec '09 after about two weeks of research on lightweight vacs. I needed one that could handle: LOTS of dog hair (retriever/spitz mix!), four kids, the usual kitchen crumbs, area rugs, hardwood floors, tile and very low nap carpeting (whew!). We also have a woodstove and frequently have small leaves and wood debris from the logs being brought in the house. In the past, I have tried Bissel Turbo Sweep (kept breaking) and the Shark (new version with one side brush; battery died after one year and brush roll got so full of hair that it was a pain to try to keep it clean). Tired of batteries dying or the vac dying!
A big problem with cordless vacs is that the battery will inevitably die out on you within a year because of "overcharging" it. I really liked that this vac has a "smart charger" that only charges the vac what it needs and then reduces the charge to a trickle so that the battery does not get overcharged. The charger base is about the size of a dustpan and holds the vac in place well, so you'll need a place on the floor that you can park it. Handle does fold down if that makes a difference in your storage options.
First, the "cons": plastic body feels a little flimsy; it is awkward (but doable) on steps; whole body of vac swivels and not just the nozzle when you pivot it and takes a little getting used to; handle is NOT ergonomic and vac starts to feel hand "heavy" after a while (I can still use the vac with just my forefinger wrapped around the end of the handle and that helps). Also, if you are vacuuming a very dirty rug, the dirt cup will fill quickly and will lose suction.
Now the "pros": this vac REALLY picks stuff up! I am AMAZED at the amount of dog hair, crumbs, etc this thing will pull in! (Good-bye, doggie tumbleweeds!) Great for kitchen; scatter rugs get clean without being sucked up into the vac; great on tile, hardwood and low nap carpets. I also like the brushroll on/off feature so I can go from hardwood to carpet easily. Gets the edges clean too. The head of the vac is smaller than I thought, so if you can't get the edges clean going alongside it, I can get it clean coming straight at the edge. Now things like dog food and air soft pellets (two boys) will rattle around if you vac them up, so I usually end up emptying the dirt cup if that happens. Noise is moderate; it is, after all, a vacuum. Noise increases a bit if dirt cup gets full. Fully charged initially in under six hours, and again, place it back in its charger base and it will charge only what it needs (charging light goes out when vac is fully charged again). Have not used it enough to wear out the battery charge as I try to keep it's continual use under 10 minutes. It has a two year warranty on it, which I think is above average. After I vac my den carpet, and after about every other use on regular floors, I use my big vac to really clean the filter and filter screen as that is a key to getting good suction with these type of vacs. This thing picks up so much dog hair and dirt that I usally have to empty the dirt cup out at least once when I use it on my den rug, but not having to lug my 21- pound sears vac around is worth it. If the dirt cup was larger, it would be near perfect! I currently use Swiffer sweeper pole for my hardwoods and it looks like this vac will pay for itself within six months of not having to buy those refills all the time! So, I guess the only thing left to find out now is how long this will last!
PS: The dirt cup release button looks like you depress it downward, but actually you have to press upwards on it or you might break it! Also, on deeply patterned area rugs, it does not do a good job; but again for scatter rugs and everything else I mentioned, it does. Hope this helps!

Traditional Ni-Cad Battery Charging Systems When traditional Ni-Cad battery systems are kept plugged into the wall, energy (or current) is constantly being pumped into the unit. Even after the battery is fully charged, it still continues to supply it energy. This sends heat to the batteries and "cooks" them, damaging the battery cells. This damage to the batteries gradually decreases run time and also wastes energy.
AccuCharge™ Technology The AccuCharge system constantly monitors the unit\'s batteries and charging status. This "smart charger" recognizes when the unit is fully charged and then reduces power to the unit to a trickle charge for maintenance. This prevents power and heat from constantly being pumped into the batteries and "cooking" them. AccuCharge also uses an efficient switch mode charging adaptor, which combined with AccuCharge circuitry utilizes less energy. In a recent study, the use of Dirt Devil\'s acclaimed AccuCharge technology showed to maintain charge more than twice as long as regular batter charging technology. Since the AccuCharge Stick Vac can easily be set on its dock for charging, there is no need to worry about loose batteries or needing spares. ENERGY STAR certified AccuCharge technology will reduce electricity usage to only a trickle once your battery is fully charged. You can store your stick vac on the charger without having to worry about wasting energy, space, or money.

Here's my situation. I have a cat box in my bathroom and I really didn't like sweeping the kitty litter up every day - the broom would kick up dust and I would invariably miss a bit of kitty litter.
I needed something small, light that I could drag out and buzz around the bathroom (hard surface) with. This fits the bill perfectly. It's not exactly quiet, but not too bad either.
I don't like the rechargeable stick vacs because my closet doesn't have a power outlet and I really don't want to leave it out and look at the thing. In addition, corded stick vacs tend to be more powerful and don't run down, but you do have to put up with a cord.
This stick vac is basically a dustbuster with a telescopic handle and a detachable (bare) floor nozzle. It is not going to compete with a regular vacuum, but for light cleanup (e.g. kitty litter) it works just fine. I also use it on the low-pile carpeting just outside the bathroom door to pick up any stray kitty litter and it gets most of it. I don't think you'd want to use it on thicker pile carpeting or for large areas especially considering the floor nozzle has no brush roller - it really is designed for hard floors.
It does what I need -- no more kicking up dust and no more kitty litter in the bathroom (I use it every day). I am happy with my purchase.
